Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh – The YSR Congress party (YSRCP) has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into a high-profile drug trafficking case involving an Andhra Pradesh state police constable. The demand comes after the Hyderabad Police apprehended AR constable Gunasekhar for his alleged involvement in the illicit drug trade.
YSRCP Member of Parliament from Tirupati, Maddila Gurumoorthy, made the request for a CBI investigation during a press conference on Tuesday. Gurumoorthy expressed concern over the gravity of the situation, stating that the case deserves a thorough and unbiased investigation at the national level.
“This is a very serious matter that requires immediate attention. An Andhra Pradesh state police constable being involved in drug trafficking is a major breach of public trust,” Gurumoorthy said. “We demand a CBI probe to ensure a comprehensive investigation and bring all the culprits to justice, regardless of their position or influence.”
The case came to light when the Hyderabad Police arrested Gunasekhar, an Armed Reserve (AR) constable, for his alleged involvement in the drug trade. According to the authorities, Gunasekhar was found in possession of a significant quantity of narcotics, including methamphetamine and other banned substances.
The arrest has raised serious concerns about the integrity of the state police force and the potential for corruption within its ranks. Gurumoorthy emphasized the need for a CBI investigation to uncover the full extent of the drug trafficking network and any potential links to higher-level officials.
“The people of Andhra Pradesh deserve to know the truth about this case. A CBI probe will ensure a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation, which is crucial in restoring public confidence in our law enforcement agencies,” the YSRCP MP added.
The demand for a CBI investigation has garnered support from various political and social organizations in the state, who believe that a national-level agency is better equipped to handle a case of this magnitude and complexity. The Andhra Pradesh government is yet to respond to the YSRCP’s request, but the public pressure is mounting for a swift and decisive action to address this pressing issue.
