Vijayawada, India – The coastal city of Visakhapatnam, lovingly known as Vizag, has etched its name in the Guinness World Records by hosting the largest ever yoga session. On Saturday, over three lakh (300,000) people gathered at the iconic RK Beach to celebrate the 11th International Day of Yoga, shattering the previous record.
The impressive feat was officially recognized by Guinness World Records, making it the largest gathering for a yoga session at a single venue. The previous record was held by Maharashtra, India, where 224,671 people participated in a yoga event in 2018.
The event, organized by the Andhra Pradesh government in partnership with the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), saw participants from all walks of life come together to perform various yoga asanas (postures) in unison. From schoolchildren to senior citizens, the enthusiastic crowd demonstrated the inclusive and universal appeal of this ancient Indian practice.
Addressing the gathering, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed his delight at the state’s achievement. “This is a proud moment for all of us. Yoga has the power to unite people, and this record-breaking event is a testament to the growing popularity of this discipline not just in India, but across the world,” he said.
The event was marked by a sense of unity and celebration, with participants donning colorful attire and performing the yoga asanas in perfect synchronization. The picturesque backdrop of the beach, coupled with the early morning breeze, created an enchanting atmosphere that further elevated the experience.
