Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has taken a page out of U.S. President Donald Trump’s playbook with a new proposal that aims to provide financial assistance to newborns in the state. Inspired by Trump’s recently announced “Trump Accounts” plan, Naidu has unveiled a similar initiative that would see every child born in Andhra Pradesh receive a lump sum investment to kickstart their financial future.

The “Trump Accounts” plan, as proposed by the U.S. president, would provide $1,000 to be deposited into a special investment account for every newborn American. The funds would then grow over time through compound interest, giving children a substantial financial head start when they reach adulthood. Naidu’s version of the program, while still in the early planning stages, is expected to follow a similar model.

“This is a visionary idea that will transform the lives of our state’s children,” Naidu said in a recent statement. “By investing in the next generation from the moment they are born, we are setting them up for long-term financial security and success. It’s a bold move, but one that I believe will pay dividends for Andhra Pradesh for years to come.”

Details of Naidu’s proposal remain sparse, but it is understood that the funds for the accounts would come from the state government’s budget. The goal is to eventually have every newborn child in Andhra Pradesh receive an initial investment, which would then be managed by a team of financial experts to ensure maximum growth potential.

Critics of the plan, however, have raised concerns about the feasibility and sustainability of such a program, particularly given the state’s ongoing financial challenges. There are also questions about whether the funds would be accessible to families before the child reaches adulthood, and how the accounts would be structured to prevent misuse or exploitation.

“While the idea is certainly ambitious, we need to take a careful, pragmatic approach to ensure that it truly benefits the children of Andhra Pradesh,” said opposition leader Jagan Mohan Reddy. “There are a lot of details that need to be worked out, and we must ensure that this program is not just a political stunt, but a genuine investment in the future of our state.”

Naidu’s announcement has generated significant buzz, both within Andhra Pradesh and across India, as the former chief minister looks to position himself as a forward-thinking leader with bold, innovative ideas. Whether the “Chandrababu Accounts” plan ultimately comes to fruition remains to be seen, but it is clear that the former chief minister is drawing inspiration from the playbook of his counterpart in the United States.
