At a presentation on caste census and SC/ST categorization held at Gandhi Bhavan, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made a bold and thought-provoking statement. He declared, “It’s OK even if I am the last Reddy CM,” emphasizing his commitment to inclusivity and the upliftment of marginalized communities.
This remark has garnered attention as a significant departure from caste-based politics, with Revanth signaling a focus on equitable governance and representation for all sections of society in Telangana.
Revanth Reddy Advocates for Caste Census, Willing to Sacrifice Position
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, during the presentation on caste census and SC/ST categorization at Gandhi Bhavan, underscored his commitment to fulfilling the promises of his party leader. He stated:
“The caste census was done to fulfill the promise of our leader. It’s my discipline. I didn’t do it for myself or for my position. I am prepared to sacrifice. I am ready to remain as a party worker.”
Revanth Reddy firmly defended the accuracy of the caste census, emphasizing that it was conducted without errors. He warned that discarding the census would harm the interests of Backward Classes (BCs), saying:
“If the census is discarded, then the BCs will lose out. If the census is carried out, the figures will speak for themselves, and even the Supreme Court can suggest reservations.”
Criticism of Modi and KCR
Revanth also took a dig at both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) for opposing the caste census. He highlighted that Rahul Gandhi has called for a caste census across the country, contrasting Modi’s stance:
“Our leader Rahul Gandhi has demanded a caste census across the country. Prime Minister Modi and KCR are against it.”
Revanth further pointed out that Modi, despite identifying as a Backward Class leader, was not a BC by birth. He stated:
“Modi was not a BC by birth. He changed his caste to BC after becoming Gujarat CM. His thinking is that of a forward caste person.”
Revanth’s statement has reinforced his focus on inclusivity and his commitment to the welfare of underrepresented communities, while also challenging the political narratives of his opponents.
