In a striking critique of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), former minister and YSR Congress Party leader Kurasala Kannababu questioned the silence of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu amid growing suspicions that the party has transformed into a “Telugu Drugs Party.” This statement comes in light of recent developments involving Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Yadav, who was reportedly caught in a drug-related incident.

Kannababu expressed his concerns during a press conference held in Kakinada district, emphasizing that neither Naidu nor any TDP leaders have commented on the serious allegations surrounding their party member. He highlighted the irony of Naidu, who often speaks out fervently on various issues, remaining silent on such a pressing matter. “What will Chandrababu say about an MP caught with drugs?” Kannababu challenged, pointing to the incongruity in TDP’s public messaging versus private conduct.

The former minister also criticized the TDP’s stance on drug use, referencing a campaign led by Minister Lokesh aimed at promoting a drug-free society. “They preach to the public about avoiding drugs, yet their own party members are involved in such activities,” he remarked. Kannababu’s allegations drew attention to a troubling dichotomy within the party, suggesting that while TDP leaders advocate for ethical behavior, their actions tell a different story.

Furthermore, Kannababu highlighted a recent incident where a large quantity of cannabis was seized in Naidu’s own district, which he claims contradicts the Home Minister Anitha’s promises to eradicate drugs from the state within ten days. He accused the police of being preoccupied with enforcing the “Red Book Constitution” and fabricating false cases rather than effectively addressing the drug crisis.

In a broader context, Kannababu raised concerns about the overall state of law and order in the region, suggesting that public safety has been compromised. “If a TDP MP is caught in a drug case, what will be the party’s response?” he questioned, drawing attention to previous controversies involving coalition MLAs and TV5 Chairman, implying a pattern of negligence when it comes to accountability.

As the debate over drug use and political accountability continues, Kannababu’s statements have ignited discussions among the populace regarding the integrity of political leaders and their parties. The silence of TDP amidst these allegations raises questions about their commitment to addressing such serious issues, leaving many to wonder about the implications for the party’s future and its standing in the eyes of the public.
