Tirupati: The ongoing drug case involving TDP MP Putta Mahesh has prompted serious calls for action from the YSRCP’s Tirupati in-charge, Bhumana Abhinay Reddy, who demanded the suspension of Mahesh from the party. The shocking arrest of Mahesh Yadav by Hyderabad police has stirred significant controversy, with Reddy questioning the discipline promised by TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu. He asked if this was the interpretation of discipline that Naidu referred to, given the current situation.

Reddy criticized Naidu for his leadership, insinuating that the TDP chief had failed to address the gravity of the drug issue associated with Mahesh. He accused Naidu of trying to divert attention by bringing Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy into the fray instead of taking responsibility for the actions of his party member. “How can a person who is supposed to be a role model for the public, skip parliamentary sessions and engage in such illicit activities?” Reddy questioned.

Reports have surfaced suggesting that MP Putta Mahesh Yadav was involved in gunfire incidents as well, adding to the severity of the allegations against him. Reddy insisted that the TDP must suspend Mahesh, highlighting the hypocrisy of Naidu, who had previously proclaimed a commitment to eradicating drugs. “What will Chandrababu say now, with rampant sales of marijuana and drugs occurring in the state over the past two and a half years?” he asked, pointing out that the TDP chairman B.R. Naidu was overseeing such chaos.

In a broader context, former minister Karumuri Nageswara Rao condemned the incident as disgraceful, emphasizing that it is unacceptable for an MP to be caught up in drug-related activities. He labeled Mahesh’s actions as a glaring example, particularly highlighting the surge in such incidents since the coalition government took office. “This government has been characterized by atrocities against girls and the proliferation of the infamous red book principles,” he stated, reflecting on the alarming trends associated with the ruling coalition.

Nageswara Rao continued to express concern about the implications of an MP being involved in drugs, questioning what the coalition government would do in response. “What measures will they take against MP Mahesh? The government claims to be combating drugs and marijuana, yet these substances are reportedly available even in schools,” he remarked, critiquing the TDP’s apparent complicity in the drug culture.

The public outcry has extended beyond political rhetoric, as devotees in Tirumala have begun protesting in the queues, a rare sight that underscores the discontent among the populace. Reddy reiterated that the TDP leaders seem to be more focused on their trips to Hyderabad than on addressing the serious issues at hand. “People are watching what the TDP leaders are doing,” he concluded, leaving a call for accountability hanging in the air.
