Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader and former minister Harish Rao raised serious concerns on Tuesday regarding the allocation of Krishna river waters, accusing Andhra Pradesh of misappropriating the resources while Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy remains passive. Speaking to the media from Telangana Bhavan, Rao highlighted the alarming statistics that reveal Andhra Pradesh uses 80% of the 664 TMC of Krishna water, questioning the inaction of the Telangana government.

“If Andhra Pradesh is using 80% of the water, what is Revanth Reddy doing? Is he just sitting idle in his Jubilee Hills palace?” Rao asked, reflecting his frustration over the current situation. He pointed out that the Telangana State’s E-N-C had already written to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to address the issue, yet there seems to be a lack of urgency from the Telangana government to protect its rights.

Rao’s comments come amid growing concerns over water rights and usage in the region, particularly as the Krishna river serves as a crucial water source for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The former minister criticized the Chief Minister for turning a blind eye to the injustice faced by Telangana, emphasizing that the state should not remain silent while its resources are being exploited.

He further questioned why an Apex Council meeting has not been convened to address these pressing concerns. “Why is there no demand for an Apex Council meeting? We are here to remind the government that the rights of the state must be defended,” he stated, reaffirming BRS’s stance on the necessity of convening the meeting to discuss the water-sharing arrangements.

In addition to the water issues, Rao expressed his discontent with the government’s negligence regarding the filling of E-N-C posts, which he argued is crucial for effective governance and management of the state’s resources. He urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to take immediate action to safeguard the rights of Telangana and ensure that the state receives its fair share of water.

The ongoing debate over water allocation is not just a political issue but one that directly impacts the livelihoods of farmers and residents in Telangana. As tensions rise over the management of river waters, the demand for a meeting of the Apex Council becomes increasingly urgent. Rao’s remarks highlight the critical need for strong leadership and proactive measures to address what many in Telangana see as a long-standing injustice.

As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on the state government’s response and whether it will take the necessary steps to advocate for Telangana’s rightful share of Krishna river waters. The BRS party continues to call for accountability and action, emphasizing the importance of unity and vigilance in the face of perceived injustices against the state.
