The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Andhra Pradesh has launched a probe into allegations of fund diversion from the State Digital Corporation to finance Yatra-2, a politically charged event. The inquiry comes amid mounting concerns from opposition parties about the misuse of public resources for political gain.
According to CID sources, investigators are examining financial transactions and records linked to the State Digital Corporation, which oversees technology-driven projects across the state. Allegations claim that money originally earmarked for digital infrastructure and development initiatives was redirected to support Yatra-2, which critics describe as a political rally rather than a state-backed program.
Opposition parties, which filed complaints leading to the probe, have demanded greater transparency and accountability. They argue that siphoning funds from essential digital services to finance political campaigns undermines governance and erodes public trust.
Responding to the controversy, Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy dismissed the allegations as “politically motivated,” asserting that funds allocated to the Digital Corporation are being utilized effectively for citizen services. However, CID officials maintain that their investigation will scrutinize contracts, payment records, and communications linked to Yatra-2 to determine whether misappropriation occurred.
The CID is expected to interview officials from the Digital Corporation as well as event organizers. Legal action could follow if evidence of wrongdoing is uncovered.
With Andhra Pradesh heading toward elections, the probe has added a new dimension to the state’s charged political climate. Analysts say the outcome could influence public sentiment, shaping perceptions of governance and accountability.
