Tensions Escalate Among MLAs and MPs in Ruling Coalition

Amaravati: The ruling coalition government in Andhra Pradesh is witnessing a power struggle between its Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). Both sides are exerting intense pressure on the administrative machinery, demanding that their voices be heard above all others.

The tussle over postings, contracts, and other matters has resulted in a cold war between the lawmakers. In some districts, the differences have intensified to the point where physical altercations have occurred. The dominance of certain MPs in various regions has irked the MLAs, who are expressing their strong discontent.

Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) is reportedly asserting his influence across multiple constituencies, allegedly positioning his people to handle sand ramps, liquor shops, and contracts. This has caused resentment among the MLAs, who fear that opposing him could invite the wrath of Chief Minister Lokesh.

Narsaraopet MP Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu is also accused of interfering in the affairs of all constituencies, trying to impose his own agenda. The MLAs are angered by his attempts to set up exclusive factions and work with them, even though he failed to secure the desired seats for his candidates during the elections.

The situation has escalated to the point where some MLAs have already filed complaints against Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu with the party leadership. Similarly, Peddapuram MP Vemurirevdi Prabhakar Reddy’s interference in the affairs of Nellore district has irked the local MLAs, who allege that he is acting with the backing of Chief Minister’s son Lokesh.

In Visakhapatnam, MP Bharat’s close ties with the Chief Minister’s family have led to concerns among the MLAs about his overbearing involvement in district affairs and the functioning of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). Bhimili MLA and former minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao has openly criticized Bharat’s style of functioning.

The power tussle between the MPs and MLAs within the ruling coalition has created an atmosphere of unease, with the lawmakers resorting to various tactics to assert their dominance and influence the administration according to their preferences. The infighting threatens to undermine the government’s ability to effectively serve the people of Andhra Pradesh.
