Visakhapatnam: Today marks a significant day in the history of Visakhapatnam, as the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has declared it a ‘Black Day’ in response to the actions of the coalition government. Senior leader and MLC Botsa Satyanarayana voiced strong criticisms during a media briefing following a chaotic session of the Visakh Municipal Corporation. He accused the government of acting in violation of laws and the constitution.

Botsa highlighted the recent violent incidents where YSRCP corporators were assaulted during the council meeting, pointing out that even female corporators were not spared. He condemned the brutal attack on the Deputy Mayor, questioning the rationale behind such violence in response to peaceful protests against corruption and land grabbing. “What kind of governance allows such attacks?” he asked, emphasizing the government’s lack of shame and morality as they continue to seize lands worth over Rs. 5,000 crores.

He further elaborated that the day the government allocated land to Geetam University should be remembered as a ‘Black Day’. Botsa made it clear that the YSRCP would legally challenge these allocations, asserting their commitment to fighting for the rights of the people of Visakhapatnam. Prior to this press conference, the party had already expressed its dissent against the controversial land allocations through a peaceful protest at the GVMC Dharna Chowk.

During this demonstration, YSRCP leaders donned black shawls as a symbol of their protest against what they termed as the rampant land theft orchestrated by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his family in Visakhapatnam. Botsa firmly stated that despite the government’s misuse of power to appropriate the land of the poor, the YSRCP would stand firm in their fight for the welfare of impoverished families.

The protest aimed to safeguard the assets of the people of Visakhapatnam, with Botsa asserting that they would not tolerate any actions that are against the public interest. He criticized the proposal for the regularization of Geetam University’s land as being contrary to public welfare, claiming it would merely legitimize illegal activities.

Despite the strong opposition from the YSRCP and left-wing parties, the coalition government moved ahead with the regularization of Geetam’s lands during the GVMC council meeting, disregarding the objections raised by the opposition. This development has intensified the political tensions in the region, as the YSRCP continues to rally support against what they perceive as unjust and unlawful actions by the ruling coalition.

As the situation unfolds, the YSR Congress Party appears poised to escalate its protests and legal battles, vowing to protect the rights of the citizens and challenge any decisions that threaten their properties and livelihoods. The coming days will likely see heightened scrutiny of the government’s land policies and their implications for the people of Visakhapatnam.
