Hyderabad: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Maheshwar Reddy has accused the Telangana government of neglecting the lives of farmers. Reddy lambasted the state government, stating that it does not seem to value the lives of farmers, as evidenced by the lack of a plan to provide Rs. 50 lakh compensation to farmers who die at the paddy procurement centers.
Speaking at a press conference at the BJP state office on Thursday, Reddy said, “The government is deducting 4 kilograms from the 40-kilogram paddy bags. This amounts to a loss of 13 lakh quintals of grain, worth around Rs. 6,000 crore, which is being snatched away from the farmers. The question is, where is this money going?”
Reddy also raised concerns about the government’s handling of the rice mills that have been blacklisted. He questioned why the government is still sending paddy to these blacklisted mills and what actions have been taken against the rice mills that previously failed to provide the Customary Milling Rate (CMR) to the government.
The BJP leader demanded that the state government initiate a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the paddy procurement process. He also questioned the lack of action against leaders like Revanth Reddy and Uttam, who had previously accused the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party of corruption in the Civil Supplies department.
Reddy’s scathing criticism highlights the growing tensions between the opposition BJP and the ruling BRS government over the issue of farmer welfare and the handling of the paddy procurement process in Telangana.
