In a bold move against what they describe as an oppressive coalition government in Andhra Pradesh, members of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) staged a protest outside the Parliament in Delhi on Tuesday morning. The MPs rallied with banners and slogans demanding intervention from the President of India to impose President’s Rule in the state, citing escalating violence and lawlessness under the current administration.
The YSRCP has accused the coalition government of failing to maintain peace and security, claiming that attacks on opposition leaders’ residences have become a common occurrence. They have called on the central government to take immediate action to protect public safety, asserting that the situation in Andhra Pradesh resembles a “jungle raj” where retribution politics reigns supreme. The party leaders highlighted the alleged misuse of power, including fabricated cases and arrests targeting their members, and even threats of violence against them.
This protest comes on the heels of several reported attacks on the residences of prominent YSRCP leaders, including former ministers Ambati Rambabu and Jogi Ramesh, as well as other party members. The YSRCP has emphasized that such actions threaten the very fabric of democracy and civil rights in the state. Notably, they stated that the coalition government has initiated a series of retaliatory measures under the guise of political governance, creating an atmosphere of fear and repression.
In their ongoing struggle, the YSRCP has taken their grievances to the Ministry of Home Affairs, with plans to meet with Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the deteriorating situation in Andhra Pradesh. They claim that since the coalition government took office, retaliatory politics have intensified, with incidents of violence and intimidation against their party members soaring.
