Illegal Liquor Trade Flourishes Under Naidu Government, Alleges YSRCP MP
In a scathing attack on the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government in Andhra Pradesh, Maddila Gurumoorthy, a Member of Parliament from the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), has accused the administration of turning a blind eye to the rampant illegal liquor trade in the city of Tirupati.
Gurumoorthy, the YSRCP MP from Tirupati, held a press conference on Monday where he strongly condemned the large-scale illegal sale of liquor taking place in the city, which is a prominent Hindu pilgrimage site, under the watch of the TDP-led coalition government.
According to the YSRCP leader, the illegal liquor business has been thriving in Tirupati, with unlicensed shops and vendors openly selling alcohol in violation of existing laws. Gurumoorthy alleged that the TDP government has failed to curb this illicit trade, allowing it to proliferate unchecked.
“It is deeply concerning to see the illegal liquor business flourishing in a city as sacred as Tirupati. The TDP government’s inaction has emboldened these unlawful elements, who are brazenly flouting the laws and regulations,” Gurumoorthy said in his statement to the press.
The YSRCP MP further claimed that the illegal liquor sales have had a detrimental impact on the local community, leading to an increase in antisocial activities and posing a threat to the well-being of pilgrims visiting the city. He called upon the state government to take immediate and stringent action to curb this menace and restore law and order in Tirupati.
The allegations made by Gurumoorthy come at a time when the TDP government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is facing increasing criticism from the opposition over various issues, including the state’s economic situation and the handling of the Polavaram irrigation project.
The YSRCP has been a vocal critic of the TDP government, accusing it of corruption, nepotism, and failing to fulfill its promises to the people of Andhra Pradesh. The party’s latest salvo against the alleged illegal liquor trade in Tirupati is likely to further intensify the political tensions in the state.
