As India begins to witness a gradual rise in COVID-19 cases once again, Andhra Pradesh has reported its first fresh case in the latest wave. A 28-year-old woman from Maddipalem Pithapuram Colony, Visakhapatnam, tested positive after visiting a hospital with cold symptoms. Health authorities confirmed the diagnosis following routine testing procedures.
The patient has since recovered and was discharged from the hospital on the evening of May 22, according to State Commissioner for Health and Family Welfare, Veerapandian. Officials clarified that the woman had not recently travelled, and her family members are currently undergoing testing as a precautionary measure.
This case follows the recent surge of infections in Kerala and coincides with rising case numbers in regions such as Hong Kong, Singapore, and Southeast Asia—largely driven by the JN.1 strain of the Omicron variant.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported 260 new cases across the country, with 257 active cases at present. In response, hospitals and laboratories have been directed to maintain sufficient stock of PPE kits, triple-layer masks, and other essential supplies.
Reinforced Guidelines and Public Advisory:
Avoid large gatherings, including parties and religious events.
Mandatory mask usage in crowded areas and while travelling.
Individuals aged 60 and above, and pregnant women, are advised to stay indoors.
Immediate self-isolation for those showing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, or cold.
Medicines should be taken only under medical supervision.
International travelers must undergo COVID-19 testing.
Follow proper hand hygiene and coughing/sneezing etiquette.
District authorities have been instructed to enforce preventive protocols across public spaces such as railway stations, airports, and bus terminals.
Health officials urge citizens not to panic but to remain cautious and responsible by following safety measures to curb any further spread of the virus.
