Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar recently shared insights on the evolving tastes of moviegoers during the India Today Conclave. He emphasized that audience preferences change every two to three years, using his latest film ‘Dhuraandhar’ as a prime example of this trend.

During the event, Kumar described ‘Dhuraandhar’ as a full-fledged action film, packed with thrilling sequences that have captivated viewers. He noted the enthusiastic applause for the high-energy action scenes performed by Ranveer Singh, indicating a strong current preference among audiences for action-packed narratives. “This suggests that audiences are currently enjoying action films, and it’s evident that their tastes shift every few years,” Kumar explained.

Reflecting on the past, Kumar pointed out that just five years ago, the cinematic landscape was quite different. At that time, socially relevant films were favored, with his own projects like ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Pad Man’ achieving significant success. “If I were to create similar films today, I wonder if they would resonate with audiences in the same way,” he pondered. Kumar highlighted the dynamic nature of audience desires, which seem to align with the prevailing trends in cinema.

Currently, the rising popularity of horror comedies is a testament to the shifting landscape, but Kumar acknowledged the unpredictability of future audience preferences. “We can never truly anticipate what the audience will like next,” he remarked, showcasing the inherent uncertainty in the film industry.

‘Dhuraandhar,’ directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, is an action thriller that made waves upon its release in December of last year. The film not only entertained audiences but also grossed over ₹1300 crores at the box office, solidifying its status as a blockbuster. Following its success, a sequel titled ‘Dhuraandhar 2’ is set to premiere worldwide on March 19, further continuing the legacy of this action saga.

As Kumar’s observations underline the fluidity of film genres and audience tastes, it is clear that the industry must remain agile, adapting to the ever-changing landscape of viewer preferences. With ‘Dhuraandhar 2’ on the horizon, both Kumar and fans alike are eager to see whether this new installment will continue the successful trajectory of its predecessor.
