Tadepalli: YSR Congress Party MLC Varudu Kalyani raised strong concerns regarding the safety of women and children in Andhra Pradesh, criticizing the government’s inaction amidst rising crimes. She expressed her outrage over frequent incidents of violence, noting that the government appears indifferent to the plight of victims. Kalyani pointed to the horrific murder of an eight-year-old child in Madanapalle, whose body was found in a drum, as a stark example of the alarming situation.
During a press conference held at the YSR Congress Party’s central office in Tadepalli on Tuesday, February 17, Kalyani highlighted the shocking statistics that reveal 70 to 80 incidents of violence occurring daily in the state. She accused the government of neglecting its duty to protect vulnerable populations while focusing on trivial matters, citing Home Minister Anitha’s social media posts featuring photos with Bill Gates as an example of misplaced priorities.
As she elaborated on the disturbing trend of violence, Kalyani brought attention to several recent cases involving minors. She mentioned an incident in Hindupur where a follower of actor Nandamuri Balakrishna was accused of sexually harassing a minor girl. Additionally, she pointed out that a TDP worker was involved in sexually harassing an eighth-grade girl in Anaparthi, yet the police seemed to protect the perpetrator rather than the victim.
Kalyani questioned the government’s motives, asking why the police are being used ineffectively and why the Home Minister has failed to visit any of the crime scenes. She pointed out that the suspect in the Madanapalle case had a prior criminal record, suggesting that if strict action had been taken earlier, such horrific incidents could have been prevented.
In a direct challenge to TDP leaders Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan, Kalyani demanded answers regarding their stance on these crimes. She expressed frustration over the government’s recent move to introduce loans for liquor sales, which she believes is pressuring people to consume alcohol. “This means that women and children in the state no longer have any protection,” she stated emphatically.
As Kalyani concluded her remarks, she urged the public to reconsider their support for the coalition government, questioning whether this is the kind of leadership they desire. Her passionate plea for justice and safety for women and children in Andhra Pradesh has sparked discussions across the state, with many calling for immediate action to address the escalating violence and ensure the protection of the most vulnerable citizens.
