Nellore: In a scathing attack, YSR Congress Party leader Kakani Govardhan Reddy has accused the irrigation department in the district of becoming a hub for corruption. He specifically targeted MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, alleging that he has been exploiting farmers by submitting fraudulent bills under their names while engaging in corrupt practices.
Kakani expressed his frustration over the lack of response from the state Chief Minister, despite having written a letter detailing these allegations. “I will write to the Chief Minister again,” he stated, emphasizing the need for action against the rampant corruption in the irrigation sector.
In a bold challenge to Somireddy, Kakani asked, “Are you ready for a vigilance inquiry?” He criticized the MLA for failing to provide accurate information when questioned under the Right to Information Act. “Whenever we speak out about the irregularities in irrigation, we are met with intimidation,” he added, highlighting the dangerous environment faced by those attempting to expose wrongdoing.
One specific case Kakani brought to light involved an employee named Gangadhar, who reportedly extorted money from farmers via phone payments. Kakani noted that despite having substantial evidence of money being illegally deposited into the accounts of Gangadhar’s family members, no investigation has been initiated. “There have been no actions taken against him; he was only brought back after a short hiatus,” he lamented.
The YSR Congress leader lamented the lack of accountability from either the vigilance department or any other authorities tasked with combating corruption. “Once, Somireddy was known for his ‘Art of Corruption’; now he has transformed into the ‘King of Corruption,'” Kakani asserted, underscoring the drastic change in perception regarding the MLA.
Kakani’s remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of the irrigation department, which has been under pressure to address allegations of misconduct and mismanagement. The call for a vigilance inquiry into the activities of Somireddy and his associates could potentially lead to a larger investigation that might unveil a network of corruption within the department.
As the political landscape heats up in Nellore, the public and party members alike are watching closely to see if any tangible actions will be taken against the alleged corrupt practices. The outcome of this situation could significantly impact the reputation of the YSR Congress Party and its leaders.
With Kakani’s determination to push for accountability, the spotlight is now on Somireddy to respond to these serious allegations and clarify his position. The ongoing discourse raises questions about integrity and governance in the region, as citizens demand transparency and justice from their elected officials.
