In a recent statement, former MLA Malladi Vishnu of the YSR Congress Party criticized the current state of constitutional governance in Andhra Pradesh, calling it a “Red Book Constitution.” Speaking during the 77th Republic Day celebrations held on B.S. Road in Vijayawada, Vishnu emphasized the government’s responsibility to effectively communicate the outcomes of the Republic Day celebrations to the public and stressed the need for strict adherence to the Constitution.
Vishnu pointed out the diminishing value and respect for the Constitution in the state, asserting that the government is failing to uphold its legal obligations. “The government must ensure social equality for all sections of society, yet it appears to be acting unilaterally,” he remarked. He lamented that, despite the achievements of the past five years under the leadership of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the coalition government that has been in power for the last 20 months has caused significant hardships for the people.
Highlighting the prevailing injustices in the state, K.K. Raju, the district president of the YSR Congress Party, echoed similar sentiments during the celebrations at the party’s office in Visakhapatnam. Raju unveiled the national flag and expressed his concerns about the ongoing injustices faced by citizens, criticizing the lack of governance aligned with constitutional principles in Andhra Pradesh.
Raju stated, “Since 2019, the governance of Y.S. Jagan has been in accordance with the Constitution, but now we see a departure from these principles.” He emphasized the importance of education in promoting equality within society, noting that Jagan has prioritized educational reforms and provided support to marginalized communities. Raju highlighted that Jagan’s initiatives have offered representation to underprivileged social groups in legislative assemblies, making unprecedented decisions for backward castes that have never been made in the history of the country.
Both leaders called for unity in the fight against what they described as “feudal governance” prevailing in the state. Raju urged citizens to stand together to challenge the injustices and advocate for a return to constitutional governance. “We must all unite to combat the royal governance that is currently taking root in our state,” he declared, rallying support for a movement aimed at restoring the principles of equality and justice as mandated by the Constitution.
The remarks from Vishnu and Raju reflect a growing concern among political leaders in Andhra Pradesh about the current administration’s commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring fairness for all citizens. With the Republic Day serving as a reminder of India’s constitutional foundations, their calls for accountability and reform resonate strongly among their supporters and the wider public.
