Hyderabad: In the municipal elections held today across Telangana’s 116 municipalities and 7 corporations, the ruling Congress party is projected to secure nearly 70 percent of the municipalities and corporations, according to an exit poll conducted by People’s Pulse. The survey indicates that the Congress party has demonstrated significant strength in municipalities such as Mancherial, Ramagundam, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, and Kothagudem.

While the Congress party appears to be ahead, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to make notable gains in the Karimnagar and Nizamabad municipal corporations, where it is likely to emerge as the largest party. The exit poll suggests that in Nizamabad, Karimnagar, and Mahabubnagar, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) could play a key role as a “kingmaker,” potentially influencing the outcome of the elections. Meanwhile, the main opposition party, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), is projected to struggle, with no apparent victories in any of the municipal corporations.

People’s Pulse has provided specific estimates for various municipalities. In Ramagundam, Congress is forecasted to win 30-34 wards, BRS 16-20, BJP 3-6, and others 4-7. In Mancherial, Congress is expected to secure 39-43 wards, BRS 8-12, BJP 6-9, and others 1-2. In Kothagudem, Congress is poised to win 28-34 wards, BRS 7-9, CPI 14-16, and others 2-4. Mahabubnagar is projected to see Congress winning 26-30, BRS 18-22, BJP 6-8, AIMIM 2-4, and others 0-1 wards. Nalgonda may see Congress securing 21-26 wards, BRS 8-12, BJP 6-10, AIMIM 2-4, and others 1-2.

In the case of Nizamabad, the expectations are different, with Congress likely to win 10-16 wards, BRS 2-4, BJP 26-31, AIMIM 8-12, and others 1-2. In Karimnagar, Congress is estimated to win 14-16 wards, BRS 10-12, BJP 24-29, AIMIM 6-9, and others 1-3.

Overall, the exit poll anticipates that the Congress party will claim between 68-76 municipalities, while the BRS is expected to win 29-36, BJP 3-5, and AIMIM 0-1. There is a competitive edge in 8-14 municipalities, with a tight race expected. Across the 116 municipalities, the projected vote share indicates 36 percent for Congress, 29.7 percent for BRS, 19.3 percent for BJP, and 2 percent for AIMIM.

In terms of ward projections, Congress is expected to win between 1210-1290 wards, BRS 860-930, BJP 250-270, AIMIM 35-44, CPI 12-17, CPM 10-14, and others 90-110. These results, if confirmed, could significantly reshape the political landscape in Telangana and reinforce the Congress party’s position as a dominant force in local governance.
