The recent incident in Ananthapur’s Singanamala constituency has sparked significant controversy, particularly regarding the conduct of local police. On January 1, an attempt on the life of YSR Congress Party’s Yellanoor ZPTC Bogati Pratap Reddy left him and three others severely injured, which has led to accusations of negligence against the police in their response to the situation.

Local residents have voiced their concerns, suggesting that the police are hesitant to arrest members of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) because they are closely associated with MLA Bandaru Sravanthi. The attack on Pratap Reddy has raised questions about the impartiality of law enforcement in handling politically charged incidents, especially when it involves influential political figures.

According to reports, four individuals were attacked during the incident, including TDP convenor Ramajanjanulu, resulting in the police filing murder attempt cases against them and 24 other TDP leaders. However, locals point out that all accused individuals are known supporters of Sravanthi, which has led to suspicions regarding the police’s reluctance to take action against them.

Despite the seriousness of the charges, it has been observed that the suspects in the case are openly roaming without fear of arrest, raising further questions about police accountability. In stark contrast, the police have already detained twelve YSR Congress leaders in connection with the same case, which has intensified criticism from party workers and the general public alike.

Video footage and photographs have emerged showing TDP leaders, including Ramajanjanulu and his supporters, participating in events alongside Sravanthi, bringing additional scrutiny to the ongoing investigation. YSR Congress activists and local residents are demanding answers from the police regarding the apparent disparity in how the two parties are being treated under the law.

The situation has led to widespread public outcry, with critics arguing that the police’s failure to act against the TDP members undermines the rule of law and suggests a partiality that could have dangerous implications for political stability in the region. In light of these events, many are calling for a thorough review of police practices in handling politically sensitive cases to restore public trust in law enforcement.

As the investigation continues, the spotlight remains on the police department’s actions, and whether they will take necessary steps to ensure justice is served impartially, regardless of political affiliations. The community is watching closely, as the outcome of this case could set a precedent for how similar incidents are managed in the future.
